Climate Town by rollie williams

Rollie Williams has a master’s degree in climate science and policy from Columbia University and is the host of Climate Town, a YouTube channel dedicated to humorous, educational videos about a vast range of issues that relate to the climate. The goal of this channel is to increase discourse about the climate crisis by making it less depressing and dense to understand the societal contributions to this issue and how we can help mitigate it. Climate Town is made possible by a team of climate communicators, creatives, researchers, and comedians who collaborate to produce fact-based, hilarious, and timely videos.

Climate Comedy - Generation180

Generation 180 is a non-profit organization of experts and advisors working to inspire and equip people to take action on clean energy. Generation 180 houses the Climate Comedy Cohort, a network of comedians who are coming together to learn, collaborate and create hilarious new comedy informed by the hottest climate science through a nine-month fellowship. The organization strongly emphasizes the unprecedented role that individuals will play in mitigating the climate crisis. The Climate Comedy Cohort equips comedians with tactics and cultural strategies rooted in science to become crucial messengers in flipping the script of energy consumption. Co-creators of the Comedy Cohort with Generation 180 is GoodLaugh, a comedy production engine and knowledge lab using comedy for social justice that is a program of the Center for Media & Social Impacts at American University.

Matt Winning

Matt Winning is a London based and Scottish environmental researcher and climate change comedian, and author of the book HOT MESS: What on earth can we do about climate change. Matt has a PhD in climate change policy with 15 years of experience in climate mitigation and is a respected researcher at the UCL Institute for Sustainable Resources. Furthermore he is an activist on bringing out the importance of using humor when speaking about climate change. He’s hosted and presented multiple forms of media in order to bring out awareness of climate comedy. From Ted talks, radio shows and podcasts to live performances. He’s performed at many charity and cooperative events all over the UK, and has performed at science and comedy festivals. Matt has appeared multiple times on TV shows in the UK, including shows like BBC2’s Inside The Culture. As well as Scottish TV shows like The State of It and Scot Squad. Matt Winning gained reputation after appearing and winning the Hillary Bites new Act of the year in 2011. Matt continues to advertise his book and spread the importance of climate comedy.

Hip hop Caucus

Reverend Yearwood, winner of Inside the Greenhouse’s 2024 Creative Climate Communication award: Hip Hop Caucus believes “anger and humor go together. Anger allows us to be uncompromising in our dedication to fighting our oppression…the humor allows us to tolerate that oppression.”

Hip Hop Caucus is a grassroots non-profit organization based in the United States. Their focus is on BIPOC empowerment through holistic climate activism while creating a community of those identifying within Hip Hop culture. Their climate comedy is based on a systemic approach to climate change issues: democracy’s structure with economic, environmental, and social justice. Hip Hop Caucus’ most notable act is “Ain’t Your Mama’s Heat Wave” featuring four young, black comedians. The focus on people and community, especially those who are marginalized, is required for effective climate justice.

Inside the greenhouse

Inside the Greenhouse is a campaign working to effectively and creatively communicate climate change. Max Boykoff (Associate Professor, Environmental Studies; CIRES Fellow), Rebecca Safran (Associate Professor, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology), Beth Osnes (Associate Professor, Department of Theater and Dance) and Phaedra Pezzullo (Associate Professor, Department of Communication) are project leaders of this. Inside the Greenhouse uses creative framing and storytelling of issues relating to climate change through the arts. They use different media including video, theater, dance, and writing. These mediums allow us to connect to a wider audience to address climate change problems!

ClimArt’s connects climate experts with artists, so that artists have the knowledge and resources to create, and share evidence-based climate stories.
