Have you heard this one? A theatre and an Environmental Studies professor walk into a class…and come with the idea to do climate comedy with their students.

No joke, two good friends who are University of Colorado professors-- Max Boykoff (Environmental Studies) and Beth Osnes-Stoedefalke (Theater)—started experimenting with climate comedy in 2015 with their Creative Climate Communication class. They began with live student sketch comedy show on Earth Day. In 2018 they joined forces with NYC comedian Chuck Nice who is a self-professed science nerd and climate activist. When Covid hit, they took their climate comedy online and enlisted professional comedians from coast to coast. Students were matched with comedians as their writers group supporting their creation of new solutions-focused comedy bits. All along since 2025, Beth and Max have held an international climate comedy short video contest with cash prizes and have had submission from over___ countries. Since 2022 they have partnered with the Argosy Foundation. This www.climatecomedy.org is a platform celebrating and connecting the growing community that uses comedy to story beyond the climate crisis.
