Over the winter months of December 2018 and January 2019, we rolled out our ‘Soccer4Climate’ initiative. These sessions were intended to help reach out to local middle- and high-schoolers to get them moving during the holiday break by playing soccer together. This also provides a bridge to discussing climate change in our everyday spaces of life.
Soccer4Climate came together through a partnership with Ara Howard from Dojo4 and Sola Abolaji from Nisola Academy. Sola is a well-respected trainer and coach, who has also played professional soccer in North America, Australia and Europe.
Through the four sessions in December and January, approximately 50 young men and women players took part in trainings and matches.
This has been part of a 'Sprouts Brigade' forming, an initiative that finds common ground with K12 students as well as the University students (undergraduate and graduate) with whom we primarily work.
Stay tuned for ongoing Soccer4Climate sessions.
